Challenges and High Technology in Minimally Invasive Colorectal Cancer Surgery TKRCD Satellite Webinar XXV – April, 2022
Rectal cancer surgery is a specialized and challenging procedure. The rectum, located within the relatively narrow bony structure called the pelvis and surrounded by fatty tissue, contains nerves that regulate sexual and urinary functions. Additionally, organs such as the bladder, prostate, urinary tract, uterus, and ovaries are also present in this area. Preserving these structures is crucial in rectal cancer surgery. However, oncological surgical principles may require the removal of some of these organs in cases where the rectal cancer has locally grown. This video discusses laparoscopic surgery performed on a challenging case of rectal cancer that extended beyond the rectal sheath, as shared with colleagues in the colon and rectum surgery association webinar.
